I’m all for saving trees and helping the environment, but if I didn’t have my skate magazines to read every month I’d go fucking crazy. Many magazines are making the switch to all digital distribution, which I think is great. But there’s nothing like holding a print magazine in your own two hands and flipping through it. When I saw this creative short about how skate mag’s will never die, I instantly thought it was great.

Delicious Design League is a firm based in Chicago. They started out doing show posters but now have transitioned into a full time design studio. They have created some of my favorite prints in the last couple years and they just put up a few new designs in their store. Almost every edition goes for only $20 a print. This Cavour desk was designed by Carlo Mollino in 1949. It was made in Italy by Zanotta and is made out of oak with an .86” plate glass top. There are so many amazing pieces of furniture from 1940-1980…if I could only afford the $12,000 price tag, this desk would be residing in my work space. For twelve grand I might not even use it…just have it as a piece of art.

The films of Jacques Tati are nothing short of visual and choreographic masterpieces. When I first watched the Criterion Collection blu-ray of “PlayTime,” I was blown away by the intricacies of the shots he had created. The story is told through constant action and amazingly timed sight gags. The following images represent various international forms of the logo for Tati’s film, “Traffic”. The first image is from the films actual titles. I think it’s timeless. I’d love to see modern films with title designs of this caliber. The other images are three different posters used to promote the film in 1971.

The films of Alfred Hitchcock contain some of the most memorable images in film history. Designer Laz Marquez has taken four of Hitchcock’s films and re-imagined posters for each. The posters for Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, and Vertigo fall right in the vein of Hitchcock’s original style. I recently started getting back into all of Alex Greys paintings. His book, Transfigurations, is truly amazing. I first saw his artwork when I was very young and it completely blew my mind. The intricacy involved in the paintings is incredible. Once I started working at Barnes & Noble both of his books were some of the first things I bought. He has a unique perception of life and death, as well as some inspiring paintings on some interesting topics. Definitely something worth checking out for anyone who appreciates acrylic paintings.

Jeremy Geddes paintings immediately caught my attention.

This Australian artist has been making amazing, photo-real, paintings for a while now. Tomorrow at 3:30 EST, his newest print goes up for sale. The print of the painting “Cafe” is a 14” x 29.5” giclee with an ed. of 150. Initially, when I saw “Cafe”, I believed it to be photograph.

I don’t really expect any readers to be able to purchase a copy, as they go for $160 AUD, but I think that Geddes work definitely needs to be showcased. If you’re interested in seeing more of his work, purchasing any prints or checking out his blog, please go to JeremyGeddesArt.com.

If I could be anywhere in the world this week it would be Park City, Utah. The reason I want to cool down in this snowy locale is due to the amazing Sundance Film Festival. The line-up of films this year is nothing short of incredible and the missed opportunity to enjoy the festivities is something I will dwell upon for a while…atleast until I can attend next year! Someone who did happen to make it out is the infamous artist Banksy. He has come to the festival for the premiere of, “Exit Through The Gift Shop”. In true Banksy fashion, there is not much information about the film. Here is the brief synopsis that has been released:

Exit Through the Gift Shop is the story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy. Billed as ‘the world’s first street art disaster movie’ the film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world’s most infamous graffiti artists at work. “It’s the story of how one man set out to film the un-filmable. And failed”.

The greatest calamity in my life at the moment is my inability to afford all the prints, vinyl, and various collectibles that are unleashed every week. Today I’m pining for some new art prints by artist Zach Johnsen (a.k.a Zenvironments). He just released two new prints from his Acid In The Ice Cream series. The first is entitled “Coffee Break” and is 24”x36” giclee, has an ed. of 20, and goes for $125. The second is “Cafe Latte”, a giclee measuring 12”x28.5” with an ed. of 30 and a cost of $65. Prop 8 trial...

The Prop 8 trial has been continuing for a few days now. I’ve been thinking about this lately and it’s come down to one question. Why is this trial even necessary!? The vast amount of people for prop 8 and against gay marriage is astonishing. Why should a homosexual couple not receive the same rights as a heterosexual couple? The only answers I seem to hear are based in some sort of religion. Separate yourself from your faith and view this on a human level. Look at this picture:

I came across this picture of Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka. In my opinion, this picture alone shows why gay marriage should be legal in all states. That looks like love to me. Think about it.

As you are well aware, there has been a great tragedy in Haiti recently. There are many different organizations providing relief efforts but one really stylish way that you can help is through Alex Pardee’s website, Zerofriends. For sale now is a new print (16” x 20” giclee) and t-shirt by Pardee featuring support for “Team Conan”. They’re $24 each and a portion of the proceeds go to Yele.org in support of Haiti.

It’s not often that you see a 21 year old student with such startling talent. Matthew Lyons, who is in his final year at Loughborough University, is filled with a style that seems to seep from his pores. I can’t get enough of the tone, color palette, and the almost retro style of his illustrations. I expect that we’ll be seeing much more of Mr. Lyons’ work in the near future.

Orifice buttons...amazing

I recently came across one of Eric Nyffeler’s prints and immediately became intrigued. While working in his Nebraska based studio, called Doe-Eyed, he has been responsible for some of the most artistic and colorful band/show posters of the last couple years. Nyffeler has also created some brilliant illustrations for NBC and Nebraska Book Company. If you’re on the hunt for great prints at a great price (normally $20), then head over to Doe-Eyed!

Yet again, Course Toys is releasing an amazing set of resin/vinyl pieces. The False Friends two figure set has a run of 200 and consists of two 13” figures (Noop in removable Paw! suit and an upright Paw!). They ship in a hand-crafted wooden box which features a monkey rabbit nose handle and a rubber band style closure mechanism. For their False Friends set, Course Toys revisit the approach for their previous 1:3 Pain figures, with two cotton pillows embroidered with the figures’ edition number. There will be a limited pre-sale at coarsehkg online shop on December 10th for 24 hours, with a ship date of January 4th…official release on January 7th via select retailers that have yet to be announced.
